Bob’s 95th birthday wish for 95 birthday cards was granted more than three times over! On Thursday, May 19, caregivers from throughout Winona Health gathered outside Bob’s room at Lake Winona Manor to wish him a happy 95th birthday. Jannette, a caregiver in our Environmental Service department, said she and Bob always chit-chat while she’s cleaning his room. Bob had a rich and varied career as a teacher, principal and other roles that touched many people’s lives. Jannette sees Bob almost every day and loves talking with him and hearing his stories and memories. Knowing his 95th birthday was a few weeks away, she asked Bob if he had any birthday wishes. She remembers him saying, “Material things? I have everything I need. It would just be nice to get a lot of birthday cards.” He laughed and said maybe 95 of them! That moment stuck with Jannette. She shared the idea and it took off. Soon, caregivers throughout Winona Health were secretly sending cards to Lake Winona Manor for Bob’s birthday surprise. Bob’s daughter, Marita, added nearly 60 cards from family and friends. We hope he enjoys opening and reading every one of the 365 cards sent to celebrate his special day! Every moment matters. Thank you to Jannette, who has been a caregiver in our environmental services department for 42 years! Why so long you wonder? “I really like it here,” she said.” l enjoy the people I work with and it’s fun to make our residents happy.” Jannette did think of one material thing Bob might be able to use: she gave him a letter opener!
