Hwy 43 61 Roundabout Sugarloaf 071522The Hwy 43/Hwy 61 roundabout curb and gutter is poured and digging along the west side of Hwy 43 continues with the sanitary sewer installation. Thank you for doing your part in driving safely though the work zones. Your efforts help keep workers and other motorists safe. Current work The city of Winona experienced a water main break on July 12 and crews worked to repair. The Hwy 43/Mankato Avenue flooded near the Sinclair gas station and forced the closure of the road for this emergency. We apologize if you were stuck in the traffic backups that resulted because of this emergency. It’s repaired and construction has continued. Crews are preparing for the opening of the Hwy 43/Hwy 61 roundabout in late July. Watch for traffic changes at Parks Avenue south by Dairy Queen. East Lake Boulevard as well as Sugar Loaf Road near the corner of Hwy 43/61 is closed for construction. There is no through traffic on East Lake Boulevard. All businesses can be accessed through the work zone. Looking ahead Keep an eye out for the following work in the coming weeks: On the week of July 18:

  • Paving will occur in the Hwy 43/Hwy 61 roundabout.
  • Crews continue to move along Hwy 43/Mankato Ave installing sanitary sewer and water mains.
  • Crews will work on a sanitary sewer crossing and then move to Sarnia to work on the watermain.
  • Bases for the pedestrian crossing flashers will be installed.

On the week of July 25:

  • Hwy 43/Hwy 61 roundabout is scheduled to open.
  • Overhead signs while approaching the roundabout will be installed.
  • Pavement markings (directional arrows, crosswalk bars) will be placed).
  • Traffic on Hwy 61 will switch to route vehicles through the roundabout (an exact date is not set).
  • East Lake Blvd will open, connecting with Sugar Loaf Road, and Hwy 43.
