Sandy, a recovery room nurse, and her daughter, Amber, in our Human Resources department, enjoy the Robinson Healing Garden, tucked away in the heart of Winona Health between the Lakeside Cafe’ and Lake Winona Manor. Amber traces her love of gardening back three generations to her great grandmother. And, as Winona Health caregivers, Sandy and Amber understand the healing power of nature and the benefit of creating a place of comfort and tranquility for all who visit. As avid gardeners, this mother-daughter duo also has an eye for color and a gift for knowing which plants will thrive in our garden’s soil. Amber said that they like to use plants that attract pollinators — bees, hummingbirds, butterflies and some plants that are edible. “Last year we spotted a handful of hummingbirds visiting the planter boxes,” she said. This will be the third year, they’ve combined their love of plants with their passion for serving others by putting their green thumbs to work — adding even more color to the Healing Garden. Their contribution symbolizes what it means to care and nurture. And Mother’s Day seems like the perfect time to honor this tradition. Theirs is a gift that will continue to grow and be enjoyed by all who visit. Thank you, Sandy and Amber, for sharing your gift for gardening with all of us!
