Dr. Lallaman’s 3 quick tips to prepare for back to school

August 10, 2023

Dr. Lallman 081023 Web Pediatrician Sarah Lallaman offers three quick tips to get your kids back to school “on schedule” ‌Start early. Getting back into a routine for at least two weeks before school starts can help your children be ready for the start of a new school year! ‌Get a routine. Pick a consistent time that you want them to go to bed and stick to it. If they are going to bed at drastically different times right now, it may take a little time and patience to get this back under control. It is really helpful to do the same thing over and over. For example, take a shower or bath, get on jammies, read a book and then lights out! This may not be your routine, but find something that works for you, and stick to it! Just make sure that the activities are quiet and calming. ‌Turn off those screens! Nothing ruins bedtime more than electronics. The blue light that is emitted from the screens of electronics decreases the brain’s natural melatonin (natural sleepy hormone). No amount of blue light glasses or filters on the screens can reverse this. The recommendation is that there are NO SCREENS for at least one hour before bedtime. My fellow caregivers and I wish you a safe and happy remainder of summer. There is still time to schedule those well-child visits and eye exams before school starts. We look forward to seeing you!
