It worked out perfectly!

September 13, 2023

As a Winona State student looking for a job, I needed flexible hours because of my school schedule. I decided to check out Winona Health. I applied for a job in housekeeping — I don’t mind cleaning! I’d rather be moving than sitting. My interview went well and they could work around my schedule, so I started a few weeks later. I love my fellow coworkers. They are some of the most fun people. I’m shy, and it was so nice that they approached me and let me know they were here to answer questions and help however I needed — they’re all super nice and helpful. When spring semester was nearing the end, I realized I was going to have to move out of the dorm a month or so before my apartment started. So, I talked with my supervisor, Jerry, to let him know that I was going to have to move back home, which is near Mankato, for a month, but I’d like to come back to my job here when I could move into my apartment. He asked me if I’d want to keep working if I had a place to stay. I said definitely! He said he may have an idea. A couple of days later Jerry told me there were rooms in Lake Winona Manor that they used for caregivers during the winter when the weather was bad. He had checked into whether that would be an option for me and asked if I’d like to stay in one of them until I could move into my apartment. I was so excited! I was happy to have the opportunity to stay and earn money for school. It worked out perfectly! Jerry and Winona Health have been so supportive and flexible. I grew up conscious of what things cost, so I appreciate the opportunity to work, and this is a great place to be while I’m working my way through school!
