Jamie Laird Waldera, CNP, joins caregivers in Psychiatric and Counseling Services

October 6, 2023

Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Jamie Laird Waldera has joined the caregivers in Winona Health Psychiatric and Counseling Services and will provide psychiatric care to people ages 18 and older. ‌“When meeting a new patient, I keep in mind that they know themselves best, so I listen to them and learn what’s important to them,” said Waldera. “Their perspective on their priorities and needs is valid, and my goal is to help them get to where they want to be.” ‌Waldera is board certified in Mental Health Nursing by the American Nurse Credentialing Center. She earned her doctorate degree as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Winona State University where she also had earned her Master of Science-Nurse Educator. Prior to that, she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin. ‌“I originally pursued nursing because this field combines my love of science with my love of collaborating with other people,” noted Waldera. “In nursing school, I completed a rotation in psychiatry, and I realized that was my true calling. I was drawn to mental health roles throughout my nursing career and have witnessed the need for mental health providers in my community. I feel lucky to be joining a community healthcare organization where I feel like I can make a positive impact.” ‌Waldera’s extensive experience in the field of mental health includes assessment, development of treatment plans, educational course development, serving as a liaison between psychiatrists and primary care providers, leading quality improvement initiatives and serving on the Behavioral Emergency Response Team at Mayo Clinic. When asked what she enjoys in her free time, Waldera laughed and said, “I’ve been in school for so long I haven’t really had any hobbies – so suggestions are welcome!” She noted that she and her husband have two rescue dogs and she is looking forward to tackling some home improvement projects.
