I’m looking forward to helping kids in our community who are experiencing issues such as anxiety, ADHD, and other challenges to learning and functioning well at school or at home,” said Valentine. “I know that what might work for one person might not work for another. When working with children, I incorporate child-friendly activities like crafts, puzzles and play to help children express themselves more effectively. I want my office to be a place they feel welcomed and want to visit.”
Valentine began her career in education and saw a desperate need for mental health resources for school-aged children to help them overcome things that were getting in the way of their ability to learn and function well in life. “Addressing those issues early leads to better outcomes long term,” said Valentine. “It’s so rewarding when parents share that they are seeing progress.”
Valentine is certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). She earned her Master of Science – School Counseling, from Walden University, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a Bachelor of Science – Communication Arts and Literature Teaching from Winona State University.
After living in Winona for 17 years, Valentine considers this her hometown. “I love this community and the people here,” said Valentine. “Winona Health is my healthcare provider, and my children were born here. I’m looking forward to being here to address the need for mental health resources in our community and make a difference to children and families.”
In addition to attending her children’s events, Valentine enjoys reading, singing, and thrifting. She has also tap danced since age 3 and occasionally takes a dance class.
