Emergency care: Grateful things turned out the way they did!

May 31, 2024

When I woke up way earlier than I normally do to get ready for work, something just felt off.

I drove into work, but still felt like something was wrong. I didn’t have any symptoms really, but I felt confused. When I mentioned that to some coworkers, they thought I should get checked out. My niece also works with me, so I called her and she drove me to the Emergency Department.

When I arrived, I was treated by Dr. Joseph Koo. I was frustrated and couldn’t get my answers out, and he was so attentive and patient. It turns out I was having a stroke, and I was transferred to Mayo in Rochester. That was a Monday, and Wednesday, just two days later, I was discharged from Mayo.

After I was home, I received a phone call from Dr. Koo asking how I was doing. I’m so grateful for his care and compassion. It was so special to me. If not for him and others in the Emergency Department, I might not be here today. I’m grateful that things turned out the way they did!
