Brett Buckley, OD, joins the Eye Care team

Brett Buckley, OD, has joined ophthalmologist Jerald Cundiff in the Eye Care Center at Winona Health and has begun seeing patients.

Dr. Buckley discovered his passion for eye care while working in an optometrist’s office, where connecting with patients every day made the work rewarding. His interest was also influenced by his older brother, an optometrist in Florida.

For more than ten years, Dr. Buckley has dedicated his career to protecting and improving people’s vision. “Vision is fundamental to how we experience life,” he says. “When you can’t see well, you miss so much of the world around you. Our eyesight is something we rely on every day, and it matters to everyone. That’s why helping people achieve or maintain excellent vision is so meaningful.”

Regular eye exams are essential, even when your vision seems fine. “Just because you see well doesn’t mean your eyes are healthy,” Dr. Buckley explains. “Many serious conditions—such as tumors, retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma—can develop with no noticeable symptoms. In many cases, people don’t realize something is wrong until vision loss has already begun, and by then, it may be too late to reverse the damage. Catching these issues early is the key to protecting your vision and maintaining your quality of life.”

Dr. Buckley helps patients feel at ease by learning about them as people first. “Once I know a bit about their hobbies and interests, it creates a natural connection,” he says. “Patients feel more comfortable, and I can better understand their visual needs, so together we can choose the right approach to keeping their eyes healthy.”

Dr. Buckley earned his Doctor of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois, and is a member of the American and Wisconsin Optometric Associations.

When not caring for patients, Dr. Buckley enjoys spending time with his wife and four-year-old daughter, playing softball, muskie fishing and cheering on Wisconsin sports teams.
