Time for preventive maintenance?

Car Graphic ThulBonny Thul, CNP, Internal Medicine, Winona Health If you used your lawn mower (hmmm…better make that snowblower) year after year after year without ever checking the oil, it probably wouldn’t last for as long as it could. Consider how much more valuable (and irreplaceable) your body and brain are! You’re definitely worth some preventive maintenance. Is it time for a checkup? Did you know you can have an annual wellness visit, also called a preventive care visit, with a healthcare provider every year. If you’re covered by Medicare, that checkup is called an “Annual Wellness Visit.” Think of these visits as a diagnostic check for you! It’s where your primary healthcare provider — your health mechanic — connects with you to determine whether everything is running smoothly or if there are early signs of “engine trouble” that need attention, ensuring you stay in optimal health for the long haul. What should you expect when you come in for your visit. We’ll check your current stats (things like blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol) and ask questions about things related to your health and possible risk factors. We can make suggestions to help you take better care of you — much like preventive maintenance for your equipment. If it’s been a while since your last healthcare visit — whether a year, two, or even longer — now is a good time for a fresh start. If you’re looking for a new primary care provider, we can help. Visit our website, winonahealth.org/primarycare to explore options or call 507.454.3650 and let us help connect you with a provider. My fellow caregivers and I are here to ensure you feel right at home. If you have a question about whether we’re in your health plan’s network or how much something might cost, please call 507.454.3650. If you’re covered by Medicare, make sure you’re using it to your benefit. We can help.
