Bunion pain is common, but the good news is that today’s treatments can get you back on your feet faster and with less discomfort. One of the hottest topics in foot care right now is minimally invasive bunion surgery. While the concept isn’t entirely new, recent advances in techniques and surgical tools have taken this option to the next level.
Today’s minimally invasive approaches allow us to achieve highly consistent results with smaller incisions, less post-op pain and swelling, and perhaps the most notable benefit is that patients are often able to walk on the foot immediately after surgery. That’s a big difference from traditional open surgery, which usually required weeks of non-weight bearing recovery.
Minimally invasive bunion surgery is one of several treatment options available for bunion correction and is a procedure we offer at Winona Health. While it can be a good choice for many patients, it’s not the only approach. Foot pain — whether caused by a bunion, arthritis, or another condition — can often be managed with conservative treatments such as changes in footwear, orthotics, or physical therapy. Surgery may be considered when these options are no longer effective. Each case is different, and evaluating the structure and function of the foot helps determine the most appropriate treatment. Understanding the options allows patients to make informed decisions about their care.
Your feet carry you through life. If something hurts, that’s not normal—and you don’t have to just live with it. There are ways to get you feeling better and back on your feet, literally.
