Winona Health was recognized for quality of care at UCare’s annual “A Salute to Excellence!” event in September.
UCare, a community-based, nonprofit health plan, recognizes clinics and care systems with top results in preventive care, disease management, behavioral health, maternity care, care transitions and medication management.
“All of us at Winona Health, working behind the scenes or providing direct patient care, are here to make sure each person receives the care and support they need,” said Merry Enright, quality coordinator at Winona Health. “That includes checkups and preventive care, health screenings, managing ongoing health conditions and navigating specialty care as needed. The Winona Health Volunteers recently received a Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) Sustainability in Health Care award.
The Sustainability in Health Care Award recognizes outstanding efforts and achievements promoting sustainability within the hospital or health system. “Since 1894, our Winona Health Volunteers have been contributing to the long-term viability of Winona Health – that’s 130 years of being a vital part of our community’s healthcare system,” said Roderick Baker, Winona Health’s associate vice president of development.
Winona Health Volunteers provide thousands of service hours annually. Kris Walters, Winona Health Volunteer Manager, received the 2018 Heart of Minnesota Outstanding Volunteer Resource Professional Award at the Minnesota Association of Healthcare Volunteers annual conference in Brooklyn Park on Thursday, September 13.

Winona Health among TOP 100 in the U.S.
Winona Health was named a top 100 U.S. rural and community hospital. The list includes the 100 top-performing rural and community U.S. hospitals in managing risk, achieving higher quality, securing better outcomes, increasing patient satisfaction and operating at a lower cost than their peers.
There are 5,564 registered hospitals in the U.S. according to the American Hospital Association, and 1,829 are categorized as rural community hospitals. In Minnesota alone, there are 145 hospitals, 108 of which are rural community hospitals. Of the top 100 in the U.S., only four Minnesota hospitals were recognized– Winona Health in Winona; Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls; Allina Health-District One Hospital in Faribault; and Mayo Clinic Health System-Albert Lea.
