Board-certified Internal Medicine physician Katrina Hammel, MD, has joined the Winona Health medical staff and serves as a hospitalist.

Hospitalists specialize in caring for patients while they are hospitalized. They work closely with each patient’s primary physician and care coordination teams made up of nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, respiratory and physical therapists, social workers and other specialty care staff.

“I’m looking forward to focusing on inpatient care and helping people get back home with the information and resources they need to stay well,” said Dr. Hammel.

Prior to joining Winona Health, Dr. Hammel cared for patients in the Internal Medicine Department at Gundersen Lutheran in Onalaska.

Dr. Hammel completed her residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa and received her medical degree at the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City. She is certified by the American board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Hammel and her husband have five sons and live in Trempealeau, Wis.
